Used Car Review:
Toyota Supra, 1994-1997

1993 Toyota SupraThe fourth generation Toyota Supra packed a 320-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine under its long hood, and is “generally regarded as a durable car,” says Chris Chase. However, asking prices for used Supras are ridiculously high, “a situation many enthusiasts blame on the car's prominent role in the Fast and Furious movie franchise,” says Chris Chase.     More...

Wow, $60,000-$80,000 in mid 90s huh?
How much was the NSX and 300ZX when they came out?

NSX was only $50K to start with?
OMG! People are asking for that on used ones (91-95 models)!

But that ballooned when the yen and the US greenback didn't agree.

That actually brings up a good point.
True imports, (meaning vehicles made outside of USA, not just vehicles with foreign badges that are made in USA), should be extremely cheaper nowadays.

In 91 when the NSX came out, they started at 70k.

The 300ZX was about 40k, and 45k for the TT I believe.

I may be quoting US prices.  I've been cruising the for sale NSX's in the US.  91's can be had for < $30K.

So the NSX was and still is the most expensive JDM vehicle on the market?

There's a low mileage 94 Supra TT for sale in Vancouver, asking $35 500 if anyone is interested...  ;)

:o $35,500 for a 12 year old car. When a brand new Mazda RX-8 is about $37,000 I know which I would buy. Granted they are very different cars but the Supra is over a decade old.

An RX8 is no comparison to the potential of what the Supra TT or NSX can do.  The NSX is drop dead gorgeous.  The RX8 and Supra are nice, but nowhere in the same league as the Acura.

I was making the Supra/RX-8 comparison mainly on price.

Now the NSX is another thing altogether. The NSX is in a completely different category.

NSX=mid-engine, razor sharp handling, exotic.

Supra/RX-8=none of the above

I agree.  The NSX is a thing of beauty.  One of the cars I want to own (aside from a 911) one day.

$30K is not chump change, but for a 15 year old exotic, it's a relative bargain.  The Supra is alright to look at, but the big basket handle out back and the overly large headlights do it in....the RX7 is a sexy mink.  No comparison in my mind.  For mid $20's....a TT RX7 would be a blast to run, if you don't mind the maintenance costs of the rotary.

I would never consider buying a Supra or RX-7, fine cars though they are. There are too many great new cars that I would choose to spend my money on first.

An older NSX, on the other hand, would tempt me if I had the cash.

I just checked Autotrader in Ontario and there are 3 NSXs for sale $43k-49k for a '91,'93, and a '95.

The NSX sold in limited numbers in Canada, the resale on them are crazy pricey.

www.nsxprime.com

That's where I've gone to look and scout out potential bargains to bring over.

As I've said before, a good colleague of mine ownes this car, turbo of course.

It is amazing to drive, and we always talk about how it's styling could pass as a 2006 model.  Although the targa roof is a pain to move, this car is super sexy in the summer when topless.

Although turbolag is apparent, the power is well worth the wait.  The only problem is that under regular driving it gulps gas, requiring a $75 fill up every 4-5 days on average.

Theres almost something skyline-esque about driving this Supra becasue it's rarity turns a lot of heads.  The aftermarket blow off valve really sounds great too . . .

The car stays so flat around corners it's remarkable.

I would never want the financial responsibility of owning one myself but wow is it ever fun to go take for a drive every now and then.

MDX My mechanic just picked up a silver Porsche 911 to add to his BMW 540i and Porsche 944. It's an '81. He sped away when I pulled in this morning and the exhaust note on the thing is beautiful. I'll ask more details of what model, options, kms, price he payed etc later on...Just to get the ball rolling with ya again  ;)

They are fantastic aren't they?  81 isn't my ideal model range, but they are all nice.
