2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage

2006 Aston Martin V8 VantageFor roughly the same price as a Porsche 911, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage certainly feels a lot more special, says Laurance Yap. "Its super-stiff aluminum structure has allowed the company's engineers to tune the suspension for excellent cornering grip and stability while maintaining fine ride quality." Criticisms? "This is a difficult car to see out of," he says.    More...

Dr. Ulrich Bez, might be described as a bit of a fanatic....  Rumour has it that his house in Germany - he also has a home in England - has a BMW Z1 and Porsche 911 parked in the middle of the living room. Bez, after all, was the man who was largely behind the engineering of both these vehicles.

Silly me I thought Ferdinand Porsche was "largely behind the engineering" of the 911.  :rofl2:

As far that car...          :fall:

The car is very dramatic visually and with the sound that engine makes ... even if it's from Jag.  The problem with this Aston is that it looks the part but it doesn't really deliver.  I know ... it's very very fast!  Top Gear fans will remember the V8 Vantage/911 Carrera S/BMW M6 comparison they had a few months ago ... I don't remember who won but I do remember that the Porsche was 5+ seconds faster than the British/German hybrid.  :o

IF you take the Porsche, you save yourself 15 000$ 4 000$ (forgot the Ceramic Brake Kit = 11 000$ ;D) and you get a better car.  OK it doesn't have that much power but it's not a blunt tool ... more like a precise instrument.  It's reliable, practicle, a classic beauty (expecially the latest model) and it's not a Ford!  :P  The Aston as a lot of show but I prefer the "go"!  ;D

5 second 0-100km/h is "go" enough for me! Seriously, how often will you line up against someone faster than that? And besides that, when you look that good you can be a little slower and the chicks will still dig you. This has got to be one of my favourite cars.

Hey Snowy, can I borrow 150 grand or so??

Aston Martin continue to make the most beautiful, well appointed, and downright awesome vehicles. If money were no object for me, I'd have a couple in my laneway!

we have a winner, this is the type of car that would be great to own while it's under warranty, after that it can be someone else's problem, but wow that car is a looker!

I don't know why, but I'm not a huge fan of the Astons. Sure, they look good, but not THAT good to me. Don't know what it is about them. Plus, they all kind of look the same and rather - gasp - generic.

I'd have one if I lived in the UK.... but here? with one dealer in 1,000,000 square miles, not a chance.

 :iagree:

For how much they cost, you see enough 911s on the road to make them a little boring.  I'll take the better looks and exclusive appeal of the Aston Martin any day.  Besides, both are probably more car than I need, so the Porsche's superior performance is mostly moot.

Yeah I find that a bit strange. Then later in the article he says that:

The seats are not actually that comfortable over long drives, though they have excellent bolstering for corners.

So are they good seats or not? Curious.

Another drawback of those seats is that if you're sitting in them you can't see the exterior of the car.
