You may discuss our cover story of the day in this thread....
First Drive:
2006 Porsche Carrera 4S

2006 Porsche Carrera 4SWhen it's winter in Canada, many drivers prefer all-wheel drive - including Laurance Yap, who takes on snow in a Porsche. Yet the all-new Carrera 4S still maintains its "essentially racy character," he says, even with an ever-growing list of luxury options.   More...

One word......AWESOME!

Gotta love that colour too.

Still prefer the standard Carrera but this one is a close second.

Great car.
Personally, I'd pick something else just because of $2700 optional power seats (what do they do, read your mind and adjust accordingly?) and things like that, but the car itself is great. A living classic.
There was a thread recently about car instrumentation. Porsche has it the way it should be.

Amazing vehicle.  New ones or the older ones, they are the best vehicles for when my numbers come up.  I shoulda become a mine planner. ;)

A mine planner is a thankless job :'(. Most people look for a way out in a short period of time as they are constantly getting $hit on by management and operations. Fortunately no operation or consulting firm can function without them. Now that most have left the occupation the diehards make more than the manager and work fewer hours. :)

You are thanked with compensation.  That's how it works.  No pat on the backs needed, just a wheel barrow to take home the pay.

the best has become better.

This is the reason why cars like the NSX sales flopped after a few years.
There's never a car that has much staying power as the 911.

Superb machine.  I just sit there drooling on my keyboard looking at the pics.  I soak in all the angles and reflections in that lusterous paint the colour of good wine.  One of these days, like MDX, one shall be mine.

Complaint about the article.  The car is a gorgeous work of art from virtually any angle.  Why, in the name of all things good and holy, do we need, what? four pictures from a mouse's perspective of the rear 3/4 view of the car?!  Waste of bandwidth.

You're absolutely right and it just goes to show how brilliant the original 911 design
was in 1963. Ferry Porsche penned was is surely an icon as far as sports cars go.
Any 911 is good...my taste tends to warm to the 85-89 Carrera or 90-93 Carrera 2
to my mind those were pure Porsche treasures.

What Porsche did defies the laws of convetional automotive engineering. Taking an inherently bad car design and made it into an automotive icon. Brilliant. You should've read all the bad remarks of the RR design when it first came out. Who would've thought....

My personal favourite is still the 993s and the unloved 964s. Nearly bought a silver 1990 C2 but my wife told me that we should get a house first.  :'(

I think lack of enhancement / evolution and increased price is what killed the NSX. The fact that it was only a V6 with 270 to 290HP didn't help, those numbers were okay in the early to mid 90s but after the mid-90s when the HP figures started to gradually go up, for some reason Honda never kept the NSX up to date.  I don't know why? I know Honda was losing money on every NSX, but why would they let it die like that ???

Another thing that didn't help was the $140,000 CAD price tag and the end of it's life.  YIKES!  I think most people  look at cars in that price range didn't wat to pay that much for a Honda.  And I totally agree.  Why pay $140,000 for an NSX when you can get a used Ferrari F355, a new 911 Turbo, or for $60K more you can get a 360 Modena.

I loved the NSX, I still do, but had I ever won the lotto while it was still in development I would never have considered it, for the reasons above.  I think a lot of people thought the same thing!  I think I've seen the same amount of NSXs in my life as I've seen F355s/F360s.  Which isn't a lot.

as I've mentioned in another thread, the NSX makes good used buys. Lousy new cars. only a JDM fanboy would pay that much for a Honda. Mind you a good car though. But at that price, people want more than just a good car. Prestige, lineage and snob appeal are factors too.

964 C4 is mine - stand back.  Funny, my wife said the same thing.  Ghost, now that you're in Vancouver you'll have to frequent these two sites: www.weissach.com and www.urbangarage.com .  I will own a 964 C4 - someday!!!
